This trip has a lot of sea days bunched together because the
Atlantic is a big ocean. We will travel
over 3,000 miles at about 18.5 knots.
People like transatlantic sailing because, I think, there is a lot of
time to relax and enjoy what the ship has to offer. After our especially hectic start to our trip
with five land tour nights where we had to fill the days with our own resources
and pack in the most sites and museums
possible (you never know if you will be back again!) we immediately it the
ground running with four port days!
Including our transfer to ship that is nine days of nonstop action!
Phew!
We have agreed to start our sea days in the Solarium at the
front of the ship. The large pool, two
hot tubs, lots of lounge chairs and the healthy alternative café are all within
the large glass enclosure. That way if
one of us it up before the other we only have to put on our swimsuit and sneak out
but can find each other before the schedule of activities really begins.
Elva has been going to all the lectures on art history and
how to use your Apple products. I like
the ones on history and culture. We meet
up for one or two of the trivias and sometimes have lunch but always dinner and
the shows together. Progressive trivia
hasn’t start yet. I haven’t found a good
team that isn’t already full so I hope I stumble into one. Unlike Carnival there is only a couple of
games a day so progressive will make the third.
I like to play because I always learn something new.
The history lesson was about Prince Henry the
Navigator. Although he never himself
sailed on a voyage of discovery, he is responsible for the building of ships
that could survive the oceans and also for instruments to help the sailors know
where they were and where they were going.
The lady, Lisa, who gives the talks keeps your attention with her
liveliness and inflection and does not read the Power Point slides to you but
adds information to them. I like that.
At dinner we each had the least delicious choices. The steak I had the other day was this time
dry and gristly. Elva’s lamb was
tough. I ordered Panna Cotta for dessert
because we had time and it was a thin layer of cream over fruity jello that had
no distinguishable flavor. Weird! Our tablemates were from Sweden and were
delightful. We really enjoyed their
conversation and also finding out more about the country. Neither of has been there yet. Maybe that is in our future.
During the day I had stopped by the future cruise desk and Scandinavia
was one I am looking at. I have to make
sure that all the benefits of booking on board are worth making the commitment. And I have to think about who might be able
to go with me. Any volunteers?
The show this evening was by the production cast. Remix was
a lively combination of great pop music from years gone by and current pop
culture. They did a little River Dance and a little Stomp
and a lot of acrobatics and Cirque
blended into the visuals. Elva and I
were second row center and really enjoyed all the excitement of the great show,
especially the aerial artists over our heads!
After the main show we went to the Love and Marriage Game Show in the Celebrity Central. It was not nearly as well done as I have seen
it on other ships. They let the couples
volunteer to be in it and they were not the least bit caught off guard or funny
with their answers. Paul, who is a good
cruise Director, is too reserved to spice it up. But it did keep us up a little later and that
is good. With turning back the clocks
every other day we are all off kilter with sleep time!
All in all, an entertaining and delicious sea day!
