Sea Day #6
Pretty typical and so I have already forgotten a lot of it
less than 24 hours later. I skipped the
hot tub and instead enjoyed a very steamy shower for a while and had a room
service breakfast on the verandah. Very
nice way to start the day and finish the second book of my trip.
The 10:15 trivia was one of questions submitted by we
players and mine was chosen. We did
pretty well on it and were assured of at least one right answer. I submitted the “Which four U.S. states have
capital cities that start with the same letter as the state.” Pete, the activities guy, said you had to get
all four cities and states right for the one point and we were the only team
that did. That’s a good question. One of our team wrote down all the questions
and right answers so I have copied them and might test them out on friends some
time. I love crazy, useless facts.
I had lunch on the aft deck.
It was their fancy lunch I guess.
Suckling pig and chocolate fountains, not together, and special entrees
and desserts. I just had fruit and
coconut cake.
Team trivia followed that and I am glad it is the last
one. Today we had to bring a poem with
the words Celebrity Equinox, Baldo (the trivia master) and Progressive Trivia
in it. Of course, I was the one who
wrote it. We’ll get five points and I
doubt it will be one of the best but if picked it is five more points.
I stopped to chat with Yana and Jim on my way to the sale of
the day. They are bored crazy. I am telling you this is such a quiet ship
that it is more Holland America than the Dam Ships are!
We spent most of the afternoon just lounging and chatting
and we were both so into just the softness of the weather and the calmness of
this very quiet ship that we forgot the two things we wanted to do and missed
both the backstage tour and the comedian.
But it was a great, quiet, shipboard kind of afternoon.
Before dinner we enjoyed a glass of wine and watched another
lecture on TV. This one Elva had missed
and I have not gone to any of the art talks so it was new to both of us. Dr. Glen Dolberg talked about architecture in
the Romanesque period of 900 AD to 1135 AD.
It was interesting and I guess now I will be able to identify it next
time I see a castle or cathedral. Of
course, up to now, I just kind of know the time frame from the historical
context.
At diner we asked again for our quiet, more private dining
room. Two lively gentleman from
Manhattan were seated with us. One was a
quieter but very interesting man who was born in Hong Kong but as an adult
moved to NYC because he loves opera. His
name was Robert. The other man was very
boisterous, but not rude. He spoke of
being in meetings a lot but never did say what he does. He lives at 97th and Central Park
in Spanish Harlem. He was neither black
nor Spanish and when I commented that he said that that area is now
‘gentrified.’
The entertainer we were to have sing for us was sick but
they brought back Phillipa who sang more Broadway and several arias. Very excellent and split the show with the
crazy piano player singer from last night.
It was a good evening of entertainment.
We followed that with Part II – Battle of the Sexes. I was still the ladies’ captain and the men’s
captain didn’t even show up so Baldo acted for them. The ladies still won. It was a little harder because it was done in
the Entertainment Court so everyone was all mixed up and on two levels. Tonight will be the finals.
Yes the ship is rapidly approaching Ft. Lauderdale. It seemed slow in the middle sea days but now
I know it is going to be quick to pass.
